Question about eschers

is it possible to find an escher which has three different types of escher stones in it? like a combo coticule except it has 3 different colors one obviusly sandwiched in between the other two? The story is I got an ebay 20 dllr possible mini escher and when I got it it is greyish greenish on one side and dark blue grey on the other, figured it was a loss since eschers don't come in combo or whatever it is a natural stone though. So about 2 days ago I try it out and man does it leave a nice finish, cleaned it up and to my surprise there is three different color variations and what seems to be an inclusion which is dark brown in color, currently busy but will try to post pictures tomorrow or later today. Another thing is the stone has some deep gashes on the sides so it probably was cut roughly or someone really took poor care of it.

Please do post those pictures. I am keeping an eye on this thread!!

I have seen an Escher with two distinct colors more than once and I have an Escher slurry stone that is blue/green on one side and yellow/green on the other. I too am anxious to see photos of your Escher.

My Celebrated Water Razor Hone, essentially an escher, in a yellow-green on the honing side, but the label side it's a blue colour, and if you look at the side profile you can see a definite line where the two colours meet. So I know there are "escher combo" hones, although I've never heard on one with 3 colours...

If I had that stone I would have a hard time not wetting the label and trying to peel it off intact so that I could use both sides. As far as the brown. Sham and I have brown hones that although they don't have labels look like Eschers under magnification and very well may be. :shrug:

One note though!!! I don't know if this is an escher but I suspect it is I will post pics as soon as I can, there is definitely three colors and an inclusion in it though... whatever it is.

Nice rock. It is hard to tell from photos in terms of which color you have. Here is an archived thread with many photos. From looking at these you may be able to tell better than someone looking at your photos.

well from looking at this post my stone looks like its a combo of according to tim zowadas stones from left to right 1, 2 and 4 I think plus a mini inclusion of brown.

Hi Memorael, that seems a nice stone you have!

It is difficult to tell exactly from your pics what it is. At first sight, it reminds me of a Rozsutec. These usually have a greenish grey base colour with lots of possible other shades mixed in. (See of pic of a possible R here. That one is disputed as Escher too).

Some observations that might help:

The convention is I think that boxed/labelled Eschers are Eschers.
The same stones unlabelled are Thuringians; an Escher is a specific Thuringian.
Thuringians can be vintage, NOS, or new.
Thuringians are finer than Rozsutecs.
R's have intermixed colours; T's have more clearly defined layers.
R's have a finely speckled/mottled appearance; T's appearance is very uniform.
Lapped T's display a mirror reflection at very small angle; R's don't.
T's are usually cut in faily symmetrical rectangles; R's can vary a lot.
(yours seems thicker on one end - but that might be just the pic)
Vintage T's usually have rough cut marks on the sides; new ones are more 'refined'.

funny enough the shades in that thuringian look similar to the ones on my stone.

Here's an interresting keeper. Kind of yellow/Green on one side and a darker mottled reverse. You can see the transition.

Gawd, that looks like one of those fabled "brown" eschers.

Whatever this stone is I must be on some sort of triple color stone curse cause I just got a coticule that has a greenish yellowish color on the top then it fades to pink and then to blue... I know weird huh?
