You can use any stone to rub against the coticule to raise a slurry. HOWEVER, if you do that you run the risk contaminating the coticule slurry with slurry from the other stone. You'll probably okay wit a very hard stone but the safest bet would be to go ahead and get a small coticule bout. The cheapest way to do that probably would have been to buy it from Rob at the same time you bought your coticule.
Just find a time machine and ...
Yeah well I didnt buy it straight from them. I bought from a company here in sweden. It was actually cheaper with shipping costs and so on... But i was actually thinking of ordering a Cotcarb from them . any experiance with those combo stones anyone ? A timemacine ... now thats a good idea ...wonder if u can get them at the bay ??
A small DMT F or E works just fine
I suggest a coticule slurry stone.

Small and large ones
Rich has combo slurry stones on the classifieds. I have one of his and it's a good one:-)
I got a slurry stone with my coti from rob, am I wrong to get the impression you did not?
FWIW, I bought a kosher coticule from Rob a year ago and didn't get a slurry stone. Of course I didn't ask for one. I think that would be something that they would be glad to supply if asked, probably at an additional charge.
BTW, I use a yellow/blue natural coticule slurry stone for my coticules but I also use a credit card sized 325 DMT for other hones that I don't have a slurry stone for from the same rock. So far so good.
No mine didn't have one but it wasn't from Rob. I lucked into my BBW/Coti natural at a local antique store for $10:-) It's old as dirt also:-) Unused and still had part of the original tag stuck to the Coti side. It had never been lapped or anything.
For my Escher I use a DMT fine and a light touch.
I used a couple of the Nagura stones from Japan Woodworker for the a long time before I picked up a Coticule rubbing stone and never had a problem. The biggest problem I had from all the rubbing stones was that they saucered out my stones causing me to lap more than with out using them.
