What is it about the DMT 1200 that makes it not good to lap with?

I don't believe that there would be an actual problem using your DMT 1200 to lap with, since it will do the job......the problem lies in that the C12k is a hard enough stone to wear out the diamond plate and you WILL be replacing it soon if you try it.
There is only one D8C right? It's listed everywhere as a sharpener, but in our case we are using it as a lapping plate. Correct?
DMT dia sharp's FAQ recommends lapping waterstones with the D8C or coarser. (see #18) In either case under running water. Anything finer in grit than the D8C used to lap will eventually ruin the diamond plate.
