Wow! That Kiita brick is beautiful!
Great collection of the hones. Thank you for posting them. would you mind let me know what stone is in 4 th picture left side wide narrow stone?thank you
the one with the wooden base? its a coticule funny enough I bought it on ebay thinking it was a huge coticule because the measurements were in just numbers and I thought cm but it ended up being mm used to belong to some military guy with a high rank according to the seller it is really helpful when honing S patterned straights which I don't want to butter knife
heres the other photos
Thats not funny anymore!
You have a higher pile of (NICE) coticules than Ron has and by far higher than mine! :D
Congratulations!
Thanks for the HAD "stimulus"! I especially liked the pink coticules. Sure wish I could find one.
BTW-do you find the narrow coticule on a paddle useful? I sure do, especially with smiling wedges and other oddly curved blades.
You are cool in my book. Hone on
Great collection!
If you don't mind, I'd love to see a listing of what those are. Would this help? :D

wow, nice collection there. That japanese natural must weigh about 20#.
here goes nothing:
1.- X hone really fine finisher and shows some strata on the sides, similiar to those other x hones someone called orange hone
2.- OLD OLD OLD coticule has some sort of circle stamp on the top but way to worn out to ID
3.- Coticule stamped made in belgium on the side natural combo appears to be one of those la petite blanche really hard but when honing seems to be soft no slurry but lots of black powder
4.- Dragons Tongue
5.- another x hone appears to be natural and leaves a finish similiar to a chinese 12k or rather in between that and a coticule
6.- coticule vintage medium hard
7.- coticule natural combo really soft kinda sandy feeling to it when honing one of my favorites
8.- coticule natural combo really hard with a shift from blue to pink to greenish really nice finisher but kinda boring to use as far as coticules go which is still really fun to use but nothing like coticule number 7
9.- weird combo coticule with two bbw striped I jokingly call it the zebra wanabe coticule
10.- combo coticule my widest one very even looking coticule could be called kosjer since it has no inclusions
11.- old coticule used to belong to some general or something in the 1700 hundreds I belive good for honing straights with really tight spots
12.- vintage coticule separated from it blue part really even too just one small inclusion which is going to disappear if I lap it you can see it just fading
13.- and 14.- tiger striped coticules seem faster than other coticules but feels scratchier when honing yet leaves a really nice finish kinda like a mix between a pink and a hard coticule with a nice finish.
15.- salmon colored coticule fast cutter and feels scratchier than the tiger striped but leaves a good edge funny enough I get the feeling this coti gives me the longest lasting edge
16.-nat combo hard coticule with some funny inclusion almost karasu like hehe
17.- by far my hardest coticule I use this one to sharpen kitchen knives and it stays flat forever and it is also a really fast cutter a black mud forms from all the metal shavings and it actually raises a burr even though it has such a high grit level leaves a really nice mirror polish one of my favs
18.- some x hone with a lower than a 1k finish good for setting bevels
19.- monster suita hone ABSOLUTELY worth every penny finally got an edge which I can say is too sharp funny enough I like the edge of coticules better than this... maybe some other japanese hones leave a less fine edge this one just digs like mad into skin and I get these mini nicks which heal in like an hour
20.-21.-22.- swaty, dubl duck and carbo hone
23.- and 24.- vintage coticules one is a natural combo the other is just a combo the natural one has the largest coticule vein I have about half an inch or more thick they feel kinda sandy too really soft slurry forms in like two strokes fun to use just really heavy nothing like the holmes hone someone has around here though thats just obscene hehehe
25.- arkansas stone nice finisher kinda boring
26.- thuringian or escher hone leaning towards thuringian though
27.- strange thuringian which has three different colors grey blue and green yellowish or something like that with a brown inclusion, could be something else but the saw marks made the people I talked to conclude it was a vintage thuringian
28.- strange x hone green with greener inclusions havent experimented with this one hmmmm got to do that
29.- escher originally came with a wood box and no label but again the saw marks made the jury believe its a escher
30.- and 31.- frictionite hones really nice finishers I am amazed people haven't picked up on these seems to give me a more comfortable shave than some cotis similiar to the chinese 12k in comfort but faster just really boring to use.
32.- pike hone with leather on one side similar to swaty good for traveling hone and strop all in one.
33.- TOS I tried honing with it once and the results weren't to my liking the blade didn't pull but it seemed to leave a longer than usual stub and beard grew back really fast maybe I need to mess around with it more.
well thats all hope it helps!
Just saw the assortment and all I can say is WOW ! Breathtaking collection you have there. Thanks very much for posting the photos and for taking the time to itemize them.
The Tam O'Shanter needs to be used with a slurry otherwise it is much to slow. When I use the TOS with a slurry I rate it at a 6000 grit.
That was Coticulicious. Thanks.
Mike
Jesus its pictures like this! You guys....I.....must....buy....more..... HONES!:whipped:
Do you really need two tiger striped hones? ;)
(13 and 14) I'd so love to buy you one off.
What is your home address and the date of your next out-of-town vacation?........... !!!
LOL, all I can say is I live in CA. Funny enough one day my GF left the door unlocked and when she told I was thinking all the way back for those 10 excruciating minutes, if someone broke in they better not get near my hones OR ELSE!!!!!!!
AAAHHHH..this is a good place to be,what an assortment.
Greg
You have a wonderful collection. Thanks for the pics.
I feel great shame, and I want to start getting hones! :)
My Sweet GAWD, look at that!
