it has the nice colors of marble... what it is I leave to the experts :beer1:
Looks like marble to me too. Looking forward to more knowing folk coming along. How does it sharpen?
I think we can rule out basalt.
Arkansas?
Here is a pic of an outcrop of arkansas stone:

Kind of looks like Kudu Horn to me. Based on the surface lustre, I would say that it's a Novaculite. Based on it's colour I would say it's either a lower grade of Washita stone, one of the earliest references to these stones in the literature describes them as being red or flesh-coloured; or, it might be a sample of the Novaculite that was quarried in Littleton, New Hampshire. These stones occurred in a variety of colours and grades on the same sill, but the stones of this colour were regarded as being superior to the softer, blue-coloured stones.
Kindest regards,
Alex
It's a Charnley Forrest, what are the dimensions?
Arkansas Translucent?
it is just missing handle. AS soon as you resolve that that stone will be one of the best for final touch up.
The only thing i know about that stone, is: I WANTS IT!!!!
I'm with the dudes that think its probably a colored translucent Arkansas...honing on it will tell.
Thanks,
Mac
does that mean I can't bid on it?
So, if I already had it in my watch list it would be OK.
Did anyone here end up winning this one?
Kindest regards,
Alex
Is it or is it not cracked completely in half? That fissure running down the center would make me nervous.

After all this, it went unsold.
I'm all for "gentlemanly conduct" and the "if you said you want to bid on this or that, I'll stay clear", etc. But apparently this is a result of that kind of thinking.
My opinion is, I think in the end an item should go for what the highest bidder is willing to pay for something. Maybe that makes me ungentlemanly?
Chris L
Yeah, it's my fault. I didn't see the replies about bidding on it :(
I was gonna get it, but family issues pulled me away and I couldn't get back in time.
If you want it, try writing the seller. They never relisted it, so maybe if you offer a couple dollars they would take it :p
I am watching to see if it gets relisted. If so, I may just buy it.
