The Two Different DMT-E models

I was wondering recently, after acquiring a DMT-1200 for bevels, if there was any different between the model I had purchased or the other models I have seen in videos and on the internet. I have the DMT which is mounted on a hollow plastic base (Green) and rests in a wooden case that says "DMT-E" on it.

The other model, which I am referring to, is the one that is all stone and is silver-ish in color.

Is one of these better than the other? Should I invest money in the other version of the DMT? Thanks!

I'm not certain if this is what you're describing but there are DMTs that have holes in them for washing away swarf. Maybe this is what you've got.

The other kind, the one that's "all stone and is silver-ish in color," is called "continuous" because it's a continuous surface without holes.

I think most guys here use continuous. When I bought my DMTs from Howard he told me the ones with holes weren't ideal for razors because the edge could conceivably catch. But if you're setting bevels without a problem on what you've got – and you'd know if your edges were catching, because they'd be shredded – I wouldn't go and buy the other kind of DMT just because everyone else has it.

I have only had the 'continuous' plate which is a steel plate with the diamonds embedded in nickel. I have read a number of posts in the past by members who have the same plate you have who found it to be fine for them.

I was wondering if I would get catching on circles but its so small of a difference it's hard to tell. Thanks for the help, if I notice any destruction of the edge I will get the plate version. I don't own a microscope since I have had no problems getting razors to a nice edge for my face.
