That question is as easy to answer as, say, "what colour should a car have?" Have you had a detailled look at What hone(s) do I need? - Straight Razor Place Wiki yet?
I have a SRD Straight Razor Barbers Hone and my question is do i lap it before i use it on my razor.My thoughts is yes but i'm not sure. I bought it off ebay and was just wondering.
It really depends on its condition. If it has chips on the edge, then you will want to round them out. Also, it's always helpful to chamfer the edges of any hone. Other than that, it is not absolutely necessary for a hone to be perfectly flat, but it certainly never hurts.
I buy and sell quite a few Barber's hones, in fact the last one was an SRD...

The real problem with e-bay stuff is the crud on the hone not the flatness as Ron already pointed out..
Many of the stones I buy have quite a bit of plain old crud on them, on some, the face has begun to degrade (little tiny cracks) this needs to be cleaned (lapped) off, the hone should be clean, smooth, and as a by product even, the corners rounded and free of chips is a major plus as Ron already pointed out also...
