Once any rock is removed from the ground where its at the surface and you crack it open you would find the inside often times looks way different than the outside. This is due to weathering and depending on the minerals (and of course we don't leave our coticules outside exposed to the elements) but stll over time and with use and exposure there could be changes.
Sorry I couldn't get back online until now. Thanks for all the replies. Those pics, of the BBWs that were posted in this thread, look just like mine. That's what I mean...so dark purple(ish) and brownish looking, at least to me. I didn't think I was color-blind lol. Now I also have a new one that is a very blue color....no dark purple/brown hue to it. Just wondering why the big difference. Does anyone have a pic of a new BBW? I could post a pic of mine but it will be a few days.....gonna be a busy holiday weekend.
Thanks to all!
ChrisL has one in the classifieds that you can look at. IME coticules do vary in color. I have one that is pink through and through yet the slurry is the same as a yellow. Some with a greenish hue and others pure biege or yellow. I have one that is speckled with purple within the yellow and it is the best overall I've gotten. As for the blue side, there are subtle variations but not as distinct as that of the lighter side IME.
Here are mine, the one on the right is more blue than the others. The first 3 from the left have no Coticule side, I removed the Coticule of the first one myself, the fourth is glued and the fifth is a natural combo.
Here are my two with a small slurry bout.
