I happen to be in Scotland for the weekend, and the only hones I've found have been in photos, like this one from the original ScotlandsPlaces - Stair, Water of Ayr and Tam O'Shanter Hone Works, Whetstone Roasting And Grinding Mill Whetstone Grinding mill responsible for the Tam O Shanters and Water of Ayr stones.
If I'm not mistaken, the middle photo shows a stack of several hundred whetstones ready for the kiln.
That is cool. Looks like Sham or Randy's hone collection. :rofl2:

Good luck. Forum member Coully is originally from Scotland though he lives in the USA now. He had a contact over there and brought over some Tams and Dalmore blues. The fellow that owns the mine is an old man and not very interested in exporting stones. He is almost impossible to get hold of from what I understand and the mine is not a very active enterprise nowadays.Quote:
