Using the Honzan slurry, how many laps till it starts breaking down?

I have a Maruka Nakayama Kiita and made a Honzan slurry, which if I have terminology correct is the slurry of the Kiita, as outlined by Jim R. I already had a pretty good shaving blade but wanted a little more so I built up the slurry went 100 laps till the slurry started getting a little thick so I added a little water and went another 100 laps. Very nice edge. How may laps into this did the slurry start getting pretty fine or did I even reach that point? Just a ballpark would be good to know.

I would think this is something you'll have to experiment with, as there are so many variables - the stone itself, the nagura you use, the size of your hone, the amount of pressure you use, the amount of the blade on the hone at any one time (extent of the smile), the width of the bevel. Since it is the razor breaking down the slurry, everything would come into play (I think...).

As a rough guide, Jim has an article on coticule.be under "Sharpening" where he posts his whole routine--there are some pics that give you an idea of what to look for as far as thickness/volume go.
