Wait for Sham (hi_bud_gl) to post. He has had a few Turkey stones and IIRC they were not as smooth and consistent in color as the one you've posted. His were rough and multi shaded in color I think. More natural looking like they were hewn from a mountain. Maybe yours is more well finished ?
It arrived. The packaging on it reads (in Turkish) 'Boil with rich milk or tallow before use' Should I do this?
Edit: They have added a new stone to their stock:

Size 8x2.5 inch
yes go head. gl
The new stone's details I could find:
Its mined from Karacasu,Aydın in Aegian Region of Turkey. This article states
http://www.mta.gov.tr/madenler/Aydin.DOC
In English it should beQuote:
Quality: % 55-60 Al2O3( Karacasu), % 44-55 Al2O3 (Söke) Corundum, Magnetite and Abrasive
Reserve: 172000 ton observable/possible in Karacasu, 55000 ton possible in Söke; Göztepe and Bölükardıç mines are being operated. The other deposits are deserted.
I guess the last stone is better than the first one. What do you think?
No need for a question mark in thread title as I located mines!
The stones I have found recently is much better than the one posted in this thread. See these threads:

I consider making 400 miles to Aegian Region to have wide stones in the mines operating currently and at a secret place :)
I know hi_bud_gl is interested in them. If there are more people interested notify me so I will try to get multiple Turkey stones.
Hi,
From an old Turkish book, I have learnt that there are over 100 sharpening stone fields known in Turkey. Only a few of them are operational today. Some mines(unoperational) are reported to have %70+ Al2O3 content stones.
Unfortunately I have no means to inspect them all in the near future but I will try to check several spots this month..
