My barber would like to know what kind of hone he has here. The stone was purchased in Germany while he was in the Army as a Barber in 1955. If anyone can help with the identity of this stone it would be appreciated. When he purchased it it had a box and a label on it but he doesn't remember what was on it.
That's definitely a Thuringian if not a genuine Escher. The only way to know what brand it is would be via the labels. All Eschers are Thuringians, but not all Thuringians are Eschers. 100% Thuringian though and should be a fine finisher. What size is it?

Here is a little more info when he purchased the stone in 1955 he thought it was for honing or setting the bevel not as a finnisher he used it for a couple of months and it developed a high center so he put it away and hasn't used it since. He showed it to me because he knows I like to use SR's, and offered it to me as something I might like if I could fix the high spot in the center. I didn't know what it was but I knew he got it in Germany and it was a water hone. I told him it might be worth something and would post pics of it to see if anyone here could identify it. After I told him it was an expensive hone if he had the label to prove what it was he said I know I have that darn label and box somewhere in my shop. So he is now looking for the box and label. He said if he remembered right he might have paid around 35 or 40 dollars for it back then.
That high spot canNOT be fixed. :banghead: Just send the ruined stone to me and I will make sure that it is disposed of safely so that no one trips over the high spot and gets hurt!
