Like the title asks, how good are they? What is the grit rating? Can you use it in a progression coming from a synthetic stone like a Norton or Naniwa or follow it with a 12K Naniwa? Thanks

I haven't used mine in a couple of years, but I would say that mine is certainly finer than a Norton 8K. I'm not certain how it would compare to the Naniwa 12k, as I have not directly compared the two of them. Of course there is natural variation among any natural hone but mine puts on a better edge than either of my Chinese Hones and it does it a lot faster. It is comparable to some of my other Thuringians and Eschers.
Here is an archived review of the Muller by Russel Baldridge. He hasn't been around in awhile but used to post on hones and honing quite a bit.
I have one and is excellent. However Muller makes few different types and they do differ considerably.
I have test at least 4 of them and wasn't happy with any of them.
May be you were lucky ones.
my 002 cent
I have used about a dozen and sold maybe a hundred - each one I had was very good and I only ever had one returned, and that was because of an uneven surface, not because it was a poor performer.
