In the absence of a 'both' option, I voted it doesn't matter. Always call Manmades, hones though.

Yep the "it doesn't matter" option covers the both answer I think anyway...

Seems like I always get the Manmades called a hone.... but I sometimes miss on the Naturals ...

I voted doesn't matter. Then got to thinking and did an advanced search for posts I have made using "natural". I found that I used it most often to refer to coticule combos that aren't glued. I did use natural stones and natural hones in various posts. I didn't search for synthetic but I know that I frequently refer to synthetic stones. I probably call these rocks stones more often than hones one way or the other.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

For me I call my naturals stones (sounds a bit odd now that I think of it). But really no logic or thought involved in this terminology.

For me, it depends on my mood, who I'm talking to, how my last shave was, the phase of the moon, the time of day, and the color of the shirt I'm wearing at the time.

on a knee-jerk reaction I said it didn't matter... but I do find myself saying stone for naturals and hone for synthetics. But I wouldn't start a fight with anyone over it.

I guess if it is glued to a piece of wood, or a different grit "stone" it becomes a hone. I would call it a stone if it has that " just from the quarry" look ( slurry stone included! )
