I guess it will work like a rubber, or eraser for pencils.
It will break down in smaller swarf and take the dirt out of the "pores".
There is a similar product for dirt on walls in germany called miracle rubber (Wunderschwamm), I dunno if you guys know such thing.

I would like to try a normal eraser for that task and see if it works.
BTW. all the "high molecular weight" humbug is a chemical term for
"yeah it´s rubber, alright"

Pink pencil eraser works great. Works just as well on ceramic rods.

Pencil erasers are also widely used by electronic techs to clean electrical/electronic contacts. Works well.

I've used a brass brush on DMT plates before, but I think I get better results with a nylon fingernail brush. My favorite is to just use my fingers to rub any powder cleanser with oxalic acid into it (Zud or Bar Keepers Friend in my experience).

(IIRC, Comet didn't work nearly as well, maybe it has no oxalic acid in it?)

I've been cleaning my DMT 1200 with a nylon brush I use for gun actions, and "Softscrub" which is a mild abrasive used to clean bathroom fixtures. It seems to work pretty nicely.

My DMT develops a kind of pale orange sheen, and I find the softscrub brings that right off.

I hope I'm not doing something horrible to my favorite hone for starting a bevel. Somehow I always feel like I need to go back to the Norton 1K afterwards, but I do like the DMT.

+1 and I do go from the DMT 1200, when I use it, to a 1k naniwa to smooth it out a bit.... whether I need to or not is debatable but it makes me feel better. :)
