    Default Two new rocks in

Yesterday I got a new Oozuko stone to play with.
I wanted to try something very hard, and boy did this stone deliver.
After 30 mn lapping session with DMT XXC (120) it is still not completely flat, there are spots close to the corners that are a bit low. I managed to lap enough useful area to test though. The edge was very smooth and really sharp, no harshness what so ever. The real color is very light gray very uniform except for the two brownish spots. The slurry is milky white and the stone feel buttery during honing.

The next one is a rare bird.
According to the information available from Morihei and JNS
It is not a Kyoto stone but North Japan stone. It was mined in the summer and cut in the winter indoors, but because the weather was cold outside all windows were closed so all worker got lung disease and died around 1950, so no more made after 1950th.

The stone is very similar to Aoto in grit (~3-5k) but harder, this one has very nice blue figuring. Cuts fast, probably a bit faster than Aoto, and the slurry breaks down rather quickly. Very cool stone IMHO.

Your super-hard stone looks amazingly similar (at least via that one pic), to a similarly hard stone that Utopian has. He indicated his was super-slow as well.

Where'd you get that one, if you don't mind me asking?

By my standards this particular stone is not a slow polisher at all.

    Stefan,
You never to cease to amaze me . Beautiful buys . Is the Oozuko harder than an Asagi?

Asagi just means the color , it depends which strata it comes from.

Maruka is like a trade mark, does not indicate the stone fineness , hardness, speed.

I see I'm not going anywhere with this. Anyways, good stones and nice finds.

Great stones, congratulations! Are you going to use second one for razors or knifes?

I got the second one for knives, but it can be used for razors too.
