Anyone care to comment on the picture on P.116 with advice to 'keep the strop slack' as shown.
Interesting read. I think a fair amount of slackness is necessary as they say, but nothing exaggerated at all. It's important to understand just how little pressure it takes to make a full hollow blade flex. If you can strop comfortably with no pressure at all, a taut strop will contact the edge, but as the pressure increases, the more the blade flexes, and so the more slack or curved the strop will need to be in order to make contact with the bevel and edge.
At least I think. Could be wrong.
I enjoyed the article following on mounting large fish heads ..... in case I ever acquire one. :)
