Which stones are better for knives Naniwa, or Norton?

I have a few choices for sharpening stones in my area that I am considering. I want to use these for knives as well as razors so would be interested what would be best for that as far as wear/dishing. I'm looking at around 200 grit and 1000.
For 220 grit: Norton or Imanishi (I might get the DMT 8dC for the lower grit).
For 1000 grit: Norton, or Naniwa (hard type)
I would also be interested in Shapton if I can find a dealer near me.
If I buy the DMT d8c will I be able to flatter the shapton stones with it?

Either Naniwa or Norton will work fine.

I use Masahiro (600/1000/1500) water-stones for my knives (I had these a long time before I took up razor honing).

If I was starting from scratch today, I wouldn't hesitate to use Norton or Naniwas for my knives :)

The 220 Norton is rather soft and will dish quickly depending on the knives your using.

Even the naniwa low grits are soft but not as soft if I remember right.

The DMT D8C will flatten the above stone with no problem, I use the same one for all my stones, after 4k I use the DMT 320 to finish the stones. Thats good till aroud 10k than you need a finer polish for the high grit stones.

I wouldn't use the D8C on knives as it tends to leave DEEP gouges that just don't want to come out when thinning a blade.
