    hi

    That stone had "Le Dressante au Blue" or something very close to that scratched in pencil from Ardennes upon it before we'd lapped it. I'd thought it could be something else, but I'm sure they've forgotten more than I'll know about veins...occasionally it is obvious to me which they are (usually the edge makes it simpler), but as they say there's plenty of variance within the breeds, and if Ardennes makes ID-ing easy for me with their writing I'm not going to go on any fact-checking mission.

    And as fruitless as it is (hard to be truly objective with these rocks after you get to know whom your favorites are), every effort's made here to try and evaluate 'em blind to any preconceptions of their type.

    happy honing!

    Thanks Jarrod that pretty much clears it up if Ardennes wrote that on it:-) Thanks for posting! I surely do enjoy it the more I work with it.
    LOL--- I'm already looking at other goodies on the site.

    When I got that La Veinette it had the name of the vein written in pencil on the honing surface. I wrote it on the side so I would remember what it said once I lapped it. I made a suggestion to Rob at Ardennes that they write the name on the side rather than the top in the future. No idea whether they started to do that. Us crazy rock collectors like that sort of thing.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    then people will start applying poly to the side of their coticules and those with "authenticated" Maurice or Rob handwriting will go for much more than those that are unknown.

    You ain´t kidding… Since they´ll start to sell hones by layers, people will ask for a way to prove that their hones come from certain layers.

    On the "which layer" question in this very case: If the guys at Ardennes Coticule call it la Dressante au blue, I wouldn´t dare to state something different. And as long as it works, I wouldn´t bother about the layer question.

    @gary haywood:
    Don´t get me wrong, I think 220or 230€ is totally ok for that hone. What is this Burton Series about, though?

    Regards,
    tok
