Naniwa 10K or 12K

I have heard that the best finishing stone in the Naniwa range for razors is the 10k and not the 12K. Some people say that the 12k just doesn't work well with razors? Any views?

Just in case I get flack for my above statement, yes that was dripping with sarcasm.

For the OP: the Naniwa 12k (along with the DMT 8C) was one of the best purchases I've made when it comes to hones. Highly recommended.

I use(d) the 12K. You can go directly from 8K to 12K no problems, imo

I have used the Naniwa Super 10K and Naniwa Chosera 10K and although you can shave off both, the shaving is definitely a little coarser feeling than when you use the Super 12K. It is a very reliable and consistent finishing stone for straight razors.

Although I've never tried the Naniwa Super 10k, I've been very happy with the Super 12k.

Although I never had a Naniwa 12k, I am very pleased with my 10k!

The 12k seems (obviously) to be a little finer than the 12k.
Nevertheless the 10k has its fan, partly because of the nice mirror polish it gives.
The edge of the stone may be fine enough to shave with, but I would recommend a fine abrasive paste afterwards,
like Chromiumoxide (0.5)

I was just about to put a thread about this exact topic.

I am looking for a new stone for finishing after my norton 8k and think was torn between the 10k and 12k so i think the 12k might be the one to go for now.

no point having to small a step between stones and the 4k gap in grit level should be fine.

best place to pick one up? preferably a thicker one as im not fussed on it having the holder attached, ie the 20mm thick stone instead of the 10mm one
