Seen this while at work not much time free so put in low bid and won got home and now I am not sure if it is or if its something else all together.
looks pretty beat up and chipped as well (as said was in a rush this morning when put in bid so maybe a duffer) but have had quite a few good ones of ebay recentley so maybe this will even them out.

The dark side definitely does not look like a BBW to me. I think it's a synthetic combo. Can't really tell, though.
It was the uneveness of the two parts meeting that made me think natural, but I am not very good at hones. oh well if its rubbish makes up for the great condtion le grelot and mint french frameback I got for cheap

A new one on me. I've never seen a Swaty that color and especially with that style of inscription. Almost looks like it was scratched in by someone ? Not sure what type of stone that is.
That one is confusing. The side view could be either natural or synthetic.
The inscription does not seem stamped but rather scratched in.
The description, Belgium blue & white, I have never heard before.
Once you receive it lap it and post some pics.:)

I would love to see pics of it cleaned up. I've never seen a Swaty like that either. Looks like something is carved in after the word Swaty as well, I can't make it out..Is it a Roman Numeral II ? Maybe someone messing around?
I look forward to the cleaned up pics too. If it weren't for the Swaty marking I'd say probably natural. The inscription looks a little crude though, so zib could well be right.
The Swatyn is a synthetic barber hone that is extremely fine and hard. I've got one but can't take a picture of it right now. It is longer and narrower than a Swaty--maybe 7"x1.5" but that's just a guess. It looks nothing like a Swaty under the microscope and I highly doubt the hone had anything to do with the Swaty company.
May be my suspicious nature, but it sounds like someone was trying to ride the coattails both of Swaty and of coticules. They sure got in all the key search terms, like Belgian and the letters s-w-a-t-y.
Is there any history of people mining coticules and carving their brands into them?
My two-sided Frictionite has a very uneven, natural-looking margin between the two grits.
I don't know if the Belgian reference was a search term ploy or a confusion about the hone, but I certainly cannot fault the seller for listing the term "SWATYN" given that is the imprint on the hone.Quote:

Some of my Frictionites have wavy margins and some have straight margins. I suspect it is a random effect from the pressing of the hones.

It IS a valid suspicion. There WERE companies that made rip-offs of the Swaty. For example, any hone that is labeled "Swaty Three Line Hone" is not a genuine Swaty.Quote:

I have no idea where the hone is from or when it was made. What is the basis for your comment? I'm not challenging it, I just want to know more.
Its just the impression I get by looking at the sellers location and the "font" for lack of a better word that is used in the lettering of the stone. As I said from what I see its jmo.
