probably not a heckova lot cheaper than a matched slurry stone, unless you've got multiple different stones to prep.
i have a norton 4k/8k coming in a kit that i plan to use the most. so mostly just looking for something for that. i will probley just buy nortons prep stone

If you got that kit, you shouldn't reallly need anything else to prep the surface of the hone.
the norton waterstones don't really need slurry, and you can use the lapping plate included to lap and refresh the surface whenever needed.
