I'm getting ready to take on several restorations and need to pick up a set of stones. I've found a set of Nortons, 220/1000, 4000/8000, and a lapping stone for $135. Ive also found a set of DMT's, EC/C, F/EF for $80.
I have a perforated barber's hone and a Belgian Blue. Would either of these be usable for a finisher?
I am a beginner at honing and would appreciate hearing the pros and cons before making a selection.

If you go the DMT route, you would only use the CE for lapping, the C is good for lapping or reparing severely damaged edges, and the EF is good for setting bevels. Not sure what you'd use the F for. Their EEF is the 8k one, but I don't really like it as an 8k hone.
The barber hone may work as a finisher, depending on which it is. You'd have to find someone with experience with that particular hone or else experiment with it yourself.
You definitely can shave off the BBW (you can off the Norton 8k as well, both should be nice comfortable shaves), but you'd have to experiement to see how you like it. I wouldn't consider the BBW a finisher; at least mine isn't; more like a minimum for what I'd shave off.
