Naniwa SS 10k vs. 12k

So, I want to share with other members what I hear about using Naniwa SS 10k vs. 12k from one well knowed seller and I want to hear your oppinions also.
I can not share my oppinion because I used just 10k.
So, almost year ago when I decide to buy set of Naniwa stones that seller told me that is enough to buy stones up to 10k. I asked him why not to buy and 12k also and he said that 12k leaves bigger scratches than 10k.
So, what you think, especially honers who use 12k Naniwa SS????????

I have heard the rumors too, but I am a bit sceptical. I have the 12k only, so I can't compare, but I don't think that the people at Naniwa didn't test their own products before starting to sell them. If the 10k would be a finer stone than the 12k, than I think they would have exchanged the labels on those two. The truth is that the 12k is as good a synth finisher as I could imagine, so I don't have too much temptation to buy the 10k just to compare the two. Heck, even the 8k Naniwa is a fantastic hone.

Above sounds totaly logical to me also, but what with rumors. Are those just rumors or is it something that has to be considered.
I am very interested to hear answer from members who use both of this hones and who eventually made some magnification inspections.

I use both, my normal Naniwa progression is 1-3-5-8-10-12 and NO you don't need them all I just like taking small steps a person could go 1-3-8-12 without missing a beat.... Many times I use 1-3-8-Natural

But back to the original question, the rumors persist because of the feel of the hones, the 8-10 "Feel" very smooth, could be a slightly different binder I really don't know or care, but no the 10k is not better/finer than the 12k nor is the 12k really needed after the 10k but if I were going to buy only one of the two, it would be the 12k :)

I have both the Naniwa Chosera 10K and the Naniwa Superstone 10K in addition to the Super Stone 12K. In my opinion, the 10K's are what I call can do stones. They can function as a finisher, but to me the shave is coarser with them than the 12K based on testing a couple thousand razors. There is nothing wrong with using the 10K in your regiment or using the 10K as your finisher though. You can follow it with .5 diamond on something or chromium oxide. I usually default to the 12K or a Natural stone after coming off the 8K.

0.5 and especially 0.25 diamond pastes are not for me. I find that razors finished with diamnd pastes are little bit harsh on my face.
CrOx is other story but just for M. Livi razor (there is something that razor like CrOx).
All other razors I hone just on my Coticule and that's perfect edge for me.
As I said before, in other thread, I have full set of Naniwas which is not so often in use but I was very curious about this qestion about 10k vs. 12k.
So, we can conclude that's just rumors and nothing to be considered seriously.

Wait a minute. I own and love the Naniwa Super 10.000
In Germany the rumors of the Naniwa 12k leaving scratches are still up to date, I believe.
Unfortunately all I could test was the 10k and I can say for sure,
this one gives the most outstanding polish possible. There are others as good a polisher as it, but no better.

But the polish does, of course, not tell about the performance of the edge.
While the Naniwa 12k may produce scratches the 10k does not produce
it may still be a finer stone and give a finer edge!

So the question is: does the SS12k scratch a bevel, or does it not.
I am particularly picky when it comes to scratches, so any insight might be useful


btw. I solemly use the SS10k with 0.5µm diamond on felt for the finish.
I do not use it without pastes, like with my Shapton (pro)12k, (GS) 16 or (GS) 30k, Thüringer or Nakayama.

what will be the difference in using a 5/10k naniwa sequence instead of 5/8/12?
