My new Lotus stones. Very beautiful, fast cutting and fast polishing. Dream stones.
Those are two of the best looking stones I've seen anyone post, I know nothing about how looks equate to finish but they sure are pretty.
let us know how they perform.
Where did you get them from by the way? 330mate?
Those are pretty, thanks for sharing.
Very cool! I received my first JNAT last week as well, and I am very pleased with the sharpness of my razors now. I haven't had such shrp razors for years. You will love them! They have a personality of their own.
Looks loke "lotus" is a color, but what mine they are from?
Thanks Stefan, is this veins typical for oohiras?
Yes, they are from East Oohira. I've honed 10 razors already and like the stones more and more. From one side they are soft and flexible (hardness 4 out of five), from the other side they cut very well, even without slurry. Looks like these stones are wonderful pre-finishers. It is not correct to measure jnats in grits, but from my point of view with different naguras the stones can cover honing portion from 6K to 12K.
No, I have another stone, covering 3K-5K grits portion. But I like the idea, I will try.
I have had a few Ohira stones that had the heavy renge content, so much so that the slurry looks rouge color, these stones are probably like that also. The lines in the stone are not distinctly Ohira because other stones have those line too, they are the result of a fracture in the stone later filled with a water born intrusion of dissolved foreign minerals as seepage. alx
I guess that you know that these are suita strata stones, no big deal here though. They should kick up a creamy slurry on their own or a diamond DMT card will make one too. If you use these stones for final polishing and you feel some gritty particles trapped in the stone you can just lap the stone lightly and the grit will most likely be rinsed away. The Ohira mine is known for their beautiful suita stones, but more so in the sword world for their uchigumori strata stone. alx
I use Uchigomori suita as a finisher.
