Bought an old stone for my kitchen knives. Thought it is arkansas. After cleaning from dirt of decades saw a brownish stone which is much thinner than arkansas. And very much resembles razor honing finisher. Easily gives a lot of slurry. Probably somebody can recognize it, what is the name of this stone?
Can you show close up of the patern on the stone? From the pics it looks like oily Washita.
There is a close up plus one more photo. While cleaning the stone I had to remove at least 3-4 mm of the stone.
Still hard to recognise. Haw hard it was to lap it?
This one is easier to lap and looks that this (brownish) is the original color of the stone. I tried to polish one razor with the stone. It is very smooth.
Then it is not Washita. Do you have any indication of origin from seller? Originaly I guessed your other stones were Thuris but they are normally softer.
Another option could be that what you have here is light colour Thuri which somebody contaminated. Sorry not to be more help hopefully somebody more knowledged will chip in.
The seller does not comment. I received a dirty box with overoiled stone in it. Oil was coming out even after removing 2-3 mm of surface of the stone. But when the stone became even it showed quite a good polishing performance. It's rather good finisher.
It looks like this stone of mine which I think is an Arkansas but I wouldn't know what type. I haven't figured out how fine it is yet but I think it's a finisher. It came lapped so I don't know how hard this one is.

I no longer have this tiny one but it was pretty fine and incredibly hard to lap. When it was in the oven oil came out of the stone.

Yes, it looks very similar. And probably very old stones have different quality. I will call it noname finisher.
Stick it to the salt for few days. It could suck out a lot of that oil or when your better half is not at home stick it to the dishwasher.
arks do give up a slurry that is white but that slurry looks alot whiter then any ark slurry i have seen to me it looks clay based so i would say that that stone is not an ark . no ark is easy to lap ime
