how hard is this stone if i had to assume i would say jade or marble
Definitely looks like jade to me.
God know's what a block that size is worth; I have a string of (admittedly better colored) jade beads I was recently offered €300 for..
Worth having that valued..
It's definitely cool looking, Natural, yes. Jade? I don't know. Not jem grade, AAA Gem grade Jade is naturally translucent, even unprocessed...It has a crystalline structure. That stone looks like marble. I doesn't look like any Jade I've seen...(Not to say it isn't, anything's possible) If you have a jeweler, nearby, might be worth a trip. There is another stone called nephrite which is in the jade family too. In any case, that's one cool looking stone you have there.
BTW, There is green marble...I can see what appear to be saw marks on that stone. if it's Jade, It would have to be cut with diamond blade, and they do cut Jade into block when it's quarried...So, who knows....maybe one the workers decided to try it as a sharpening stone...it's hard as steel....
i have seen green marble but i have also seen jade sharpening stones from new zealand the stone in the picture is a darker green but being that they are natural stones they can very in color
Your pic looks more like Jade to me, it has that Translucent look to it....The top pic just doesn't look like Jade, (I've been known to be wrong from time to time...)

True jade comes in many different colors. I've seen green, brown, blue, pink, purple and black. Verigated jade is when you have a jade that is mainly one color with veins or swirls of another type in it. While gem quality jade is usually the translucent green color, carvers ofter prefer the opaque or varigated stone. I've never used jade as a hone but I understand that it works quite well.
hey zib the link you posted to that stone isnt jade or marble thats a natural stone but its a grey stone it looks green in the pictures but i have bought two of those stones from that site and they are grey
