Wondering if this is a Yellow/Green Escher.

Maybe. Hard to tell from photos but it does look like a Y/G or a Light Green. :shrug:
Either way it'll be an awesome stone. You need to learn how to use it, your blade needs to be at maximum sharpness to get the great effect of an Escher finisher.
Disburden, does that mean that an escher would work well after a typical coticule, or should one go even higher in "grit" before moving to an Escher?
I've followed a coticule with an Escher with very good results. OTOH, sometimes I want the 'feel' of a coticule shave.
I saw that on Ebay, Pricey little bugger, wasn't it....Great stone though, I use my Escher pretty much exclusively these days....
I leave mine out, and maybe that's the problem. I don't feel like breaking out 3, 4, or 5 different stones, when one can do the job. I just maintain my own blades.
Everyone has their own routine. I rarely, unless there's damage, have to come off any stone prior to my Escher. I raise a good slurry on my mine, and do about 3 sets, diluting to plain water at the end, and my blades are fantastic. Like Glen's "One Stone Honing" YMMV. Every stone is a bit different.
In any case, Escher is wonderful stone, It's no wonder they are so valuable today, and prized by Barber's back in the day.
The pics are bad, On Ebay, it looked brown to me.
I would have thought it was a YG, it's certainly not a blue. There are however, variables to take into account with ebay pictures, namely screen resolution, and the lighting present when the picture was taken; lapping could vary the shade even further.
In any case, it is a genuine Escher which is my favourite finisher. I love this stone, and yes, it may be used after a coticule despite certain literature which suggests it may not improve the edge after one. I use it after my 8K Naniwa.

Although it cost a bit am sure will be a great finisher.
The higher you leave off,the better the escher is imo. If you go coticule to escher you will love it. But if you go prepolisher jnat or a shapton 16k to escher you may see its even better. Try it out for yourself and see what you like.Quote:

Just an update. Did not get a chance to use the stone until recently as I have had a bad case of RAD and too many razors in the rotation.
I have been using a quarter grind Le Grelot I got from Martin more than my other razors and it was starting to pull & tug, when CrO2 did not refresh the edge to my satisfaction I decided to whip out the Escher, slurry and about 10 laps.
It left an amazing edge and the shave was awesome :bow
Here's mine, they are nearly identical as far as honing, the narrow one is labeled yellow/green, the larger one doesn't say but is slightly darker. Maybe this will help with the color id of yours

While what you say is true .... in the old price list that , IIRC, you posted some time back, the Y/G was the most expensive of the Eschers. Bringing way more than the Dark Blue for example. Was the pecking order of Y/G, light green, blue/green, and dark blue based on rarity of the harvest or on efficacy of the hones generating higher demand ? Hard to say. Tony Miller used to sell current Thuringans as well as vintage, Eschers among them.
He told me, when I asked which were the 'best', that he couldn't say for sure, but that the rabbis who came to him for stones for their kosher butchers were only interested in Y/G. I asked Lynn and Tim Zowada which they preferred and both liked the blue/green best. IME the Y/G is my favorite and I believe Sham also like the Y/G the best. I must say that I have a couple of blue/greens that are absolutely great so it is hard to say. I've also had a dark blue, that I sold, that was really a great hone. Slower than the Y/G or the B/G but left a really fine and keen edge. So perhaps it is best to say that they are all good. YMMV.
I've got an un-labeled vintage dark blue and it works great! As stated above it's slower and works very similar to the Y/G. And as to price, I found both of my labeled Eschers in the "wild" for a combined $90 and the un-labeled dark blue for $.50 all in the last 1 1/2 years
