help identifying this stone... please

i bought this stone.... really know nothing about it other than it is ~5-7k grit....

when dry it is gray in color.... turns dark gray when wet..... the slurry is light grey in color....

it was a bit$h to lap..... i mean harder than chinese algebra......

here are a few photos.... for some reason there appears to be a stain on it.... which i think is where my wife touched it with wet hands before snapping the dry photo....

if needed i can provide better photos....

the stone cuts fairly quickly but seems to be very very smooth....

What size is it just out of curiosity

would need more pic's dry/wet in sunlight to get a look at the true color.

I have to agree but my is not better.

Pics with slurry? This can help a great deal. As can info from the country you purchased it from - again not conclusive, but useful.

You say it was hard to lap. Was it hard per se, or did you find it difficult because of dishing? If you found it hard as a stone, what stones would you say it was harder than?

I must say the colour alone looks like a YG Thurry. You observations so far rule it out.

i am not sure of the country of origin.... it was hard to lap because the stone itself is hard.... *(harder to lap than my c12k) but with a coarser grit....

the slurry is actually a lighter gray than the stone....

when honing on it i don't get slurry but i do get swarf pretty quickly....

it came with a paper box cover that i ain't sure was original to the stone.... very hard to read... it said "india oil"....

i use it with water...

The size is pretty standard for man-made hones.

BTW the wrapper probably said India Oilstone - a man-made stone for tools.

I just noticed your in Miami - I was staying in Surfside last week. Wish you'd posted a week ago!

I'm really not sure. You estimate 5-7K level but you say very very smooth. It doesn't look like an India Oil stone, but I have only seen the yellow/orange variety. I would have guessed natural by the looks, but the pics lack clarity. 8 X 2 X 1'' is quite a uniform size for synthetic bench hones. Would you say it was a natural?

when i get home tonight i will get it set up with lights and a steady stand for the camera.....

it would have been nice to meet you last week.... i work at the Miami International Airport..... anyone flying in or out of here sun-thurs between the hours of 2pm-10pm let me know i would love to run upstairs to say hello....
