As many of you know, we at Jende Industries, LLC want only the highest quality products for our customers. Each Jende Sharpening Stone Basin is made to order. Total dimensions are 42 cm long x 23 cm wide x 4 cm high, the basin itself has a depth of 2 cm that is water-tight . There are 2 "islands" to that have been specifically designed to accommodate all of your Shapton DRLP's, DGLP's, Compact Lapping Plates, and stone storage cases that double as sharpening bases. The result is a spacious height clearance of about 7 cm on each side of the basin.

The Jende Sharpening Stone Basins are especially helpful in containing the slurry and water run-off when lapping and sharpening. Clean up is quick, and you will see just how beautiful your basin is every time you use it!

These very sturdy basins weigh about 8 Kilograms, or 18 Pounds each. In order to significantly reduce the shipping charges for such a heavy item, please allow 8-10 weeks for delivery from date of purchase. There will be subtle differences with the grain patterns in each piece of marble or granite, but every one is guaranteed to be a working work of art!

There are so many other things that I would rather spend $400 dollars on, especially seeing that I only ever hold the stones in my hand while honing. Different strokes for different folks.

I'd rather spend the money on another hone which is equally, if not more, beautiful, and certainly for my part at least, far more useful.

you can make similar from corian, plexiglass, ot make what the japanese use from simple wood.

Yeah - it's cool looking. I'll stick with my standard stone holder and Silpat though.

I mean, if i was a million or billion air i might consider it but other then that who buys a $400 stone holder... But there must be a market for them as they do have them for sale.. Maybe they haven't sold any lol

I still think its cool though even if i would never get one.

Yes, I do. I keep it in my summer home in Tuscany, on my Italian Marble counter.:rofl2:

That would be the one. Actually, I have a friend here in Jacksonville Fl. (not many since I'm not from here) that does Marble, Granite etc...he always has large scrap pieces. I'm betting that could be easily made. One large scrap piece and carbide or diamond tipped end mill.

I wonder if Marble or Granite can be cut with a CNC? I'm thinking Yes...

I'm not sure why you're amazed, when guys here have no problem spending $1500 on custom razors and $800 for one hone, or thousands of $$$ on several honing systems.... I could go on but I think you get my point.

Exactly so Ryan82. Personally I could think of better ways to spend $400, but to each their own.

In fact, I am working on a stone holder that incorporates one of those personal waterfalls you can buy for the living room, if you know what I mean. I can either have the waterfall run onto the stone, or divert it away for slurry purposes. So far it is in my head, but if I get it working I will post some pics.

Looks like a product that needs to find an owner. Probably made in China or somewhere in the East and it is made by some guy making 5 bucks a day. Reminds me, years ago when I was in the Navy and in the Philippines I bought a vase made of grey marble. I think it weighs about 20 pounds. It's made from a solid block of marble and it's gorgeous. I paid around $20 for it.

If you can get one made up for a realistic price, why not! I would look awesome with a stone on it!

Cutting is one thing but how would you hollow it out though?

The hollowing would probably be CNC-based. I know from experience that it can take several hours to cut grooves into a medium hard steel.
I wonder how long it would take to cut the hollow into marble or granite?!

Well, there are ways to injection mold pulverized stone with epoxy resins.
That may be the case here,just a possibilty.

Really cool idea! It certainly would help with keeping control of all the slurry swarf mess. I don't have the $400 but I do have a stack of 1/4" & 1/2 " thick acrylic. Hmmmm......my project for the day? But, to be honest, what I have found to be very useful is using a 2" thick Aoto or similar stone as a honing base for my stones. It lifts them up high enough that my knuckles don't drag on the table top. So, I would have to incorporate the 2" high pieces into the base.

I don't know what the Japanese use but if any one has a pic I would sure appreciate it.

At the professional honing places I've been to, almost everyone has the same setup: a big water tank or sink with a wooden board set over the top. The board usually has two crosspieces to hold a stone in place.

Jimmy, it was handcrafted by a master Japanese craftsman of pine cut from the sacred forests of Hokkaido (renowned for its many soap factories), I couldn't accept less than $3000!

They cut synthetic sapphire for watch xtls with a laser so...

The same kind of stuff goes on in the woodworking world. It's usually touted by a few fans as "you have to buy this stuff, or the vendor won't be around". Sort of like the Maine made thing in maine, you're a sinner if you don't open the wallet regardless of the price.

I'm sure the granite can be cut easily with diamond tooling (i'd be curious how they make the plunge cut, but I'm sure there's tooling for it), but a corian scrap version of that thing would make more sense (actually, what would make more sense would be a pack of two stainless steel serving trays from Sams and a rubber toolbox mat roll from harbor freight for about $15 combined).

I browsed through the site and thought some of the stuff was interesting (knowing that a lot of the sale items are intended for knife users, which means a pretty large crop of beginners to harvest from), but this cracked me up:

If you can get $50 to glue a piece of leather to 1/4" glass, then by all means, you can certainly laugh all the way to the bank at my cynicism.

Diamond saws are the usual means to cut stone of all types. lasers are for precision cutting. It's used for watch xtls because the diamond saws introduce micro fractures in the xtl which isn't good especially for a diving watch. They also have a variety of lapidary tools which can do any kind of cut your heart desires. They have automated grinding machines which is how they make spheres and such.

All a bit too clinical for naturals in my opinion, think I need to start modifying tea trays and selling them for use with jnat's:

Making those would actualy be real easy,they are not made using lasers.diamonds or CNC stuff,they are blasted,Make a steel template,get a pce of jade,granite,whatever.
Take it to a tombstone maker,they do not hand engrave them anymore,they use a sandblaster with a carbide silica media,you could do that at home.
