This just arrived this morning. Was my first foray into acquiring an Ebay stone.
How'd I do? What'd I get? The seller said that, to the best of his knowledge, this was a Thuringian.

You need to lap it to reveal the stone's surface. I doubt it is a Thuringian, as the boxes that they come in are usually hinged - yours looks like a homemade box. I could be wrong. As I said, please lap it and pos new pictures. Let us know what colour the slurry is and the dimensions of the stone.
Looks like one of the Czech stones AJ is selling at Ebay. I doubt as well they are Thuringians, because of how they look and they're being described as very hard. They're not expensive so let us know how it performs.
Thanks, I'll do the lapping this evening. My DMT 325 should be alright for this, right?
The stone measures 7 13/16" x 1 7/8" x 3/4" (198mm x 48mm x 18mm).
Czech stone? If it's the black slate hone from there, it's supposed to be finer than the rozsutec. With water, and it is an oilstone. This will be the next stone I'll buy, directly from a seller there. Waiting for your opinion of the stone.
I do think that seller is reputable. I've had good experiences with him. Maybe it is a Thurri....maybe it's not. Hopefully it will yield a smooth edge. Only one way to find out. If you want a second opinion, I'd be more than happy to hone a couple on it for testing.
Ok, I lapped it on the DMT 325, which appears to have left some scratches on the surface, though you can't feel them with your fingertips. I then finished them with 600, 1000 and 1500 grit wet/dry on glass. The slurry is a grayish white and it is very hard to get much slurry with the stone provided.
Pics aren't the best, but I don't have any lighting setup yet.

No thoughts on the stone? I guess I'll have to get Maxi to testdrive it :)
It is supposed to be very fine, used with oil if it's the black Czech slate, but I haven't bought one yet. If you have a C12k, or a coticule or any fine hones, compare the edge it leaves with them.
If you talking about Suchacek ten be warned not all his stones are decent for razors. They often have hard inclusions. I do have one small one 140x40mm which is very fine and finer than Rozsutec however that one was handpicked by frien of mine who visited the stone cutter himself and hand picked one for me. i had since then more than dozen in my hands and only minimum would be up to consistent razor honing.
With the hones from the ebay seller I have good personal experience however so many hones of same or simmilar size???? I do not know. I was tempted first but then I decided not to go to it. Let us know your experience.
Also from his writting I would not be surprised if he is member here.
Wow yours must be a very nice piece. From 8k to thuringian is a big difference. Can you ask him if he can find another one like yours? And, thanks for the inclusions info.
I will show it to Maxi at some point, as he has more experience. I'm just a noob :D
I also have a Chinese 12k, so I suppose I can try them both.
Another question about this hone: what should I do about the scratches that appeared after I lapped it on the DMT 325? Should I be concerned or will this not affect performance of the hone. If I should get rid of them, how would I go about doing so?
I think it's obvious that it's not a Thuringian, as the seller seems to use the "I think it is" or "based on my experience" defense in his listings. I'll know better next time and not buy stuff on Ebay after too many beers :D.
No big deal for me, as it wasn't super-expensive. Now I just want to make the most of it.
Actually, Thuringian's aren't all as fine as you may think. I have a couple of dark thuringians that are around the 8-10K mark. My Naniwa SS is just a little bit finer, but you can only tell by magnification of the scratches. I've been thinking about trying the lower "grit" ones on oil to see how they react.
This was the first thing I noticed. They will not affect its performance since you have lapped it with a finer grit sandpaper, and after some honing they will disappear. And don't be disappointed before you test it at least, it might be a very good stone.
Thank you shooter 74743, I was thinking about Escher stones. It's perfectly normal for the natural stones to have variations on grit, speed, color etc. when you try them with oil, post your results.
You can ask him personaly he is admin of Hlavní strana - B (Czech straight razor forum). However he was there last month and reported that it was tragedy and was not able to pick any. Actualy he is memmber here too. His nick is Radgost.
Can you feel them with a flipped over fingernail? My DMT leaves small scratches as well, and I've been advised that the scratches will become smaller as the DMT breaks in. (it's a brand new DMT as well). I can't feel mine, which says to me that they won't interrupt the process of honing.
Now, if you really hate them, then it's time for the high end grit sandpaper again.
I can definitely feel the scratches on this stone when I hone on it. I've been testing it with a razor that isn't exactly sharp yet, just to see if I can feel them. I will try it again on the DMT, followed by a progression on sandpaper on glass to see if I can get it smooth again. It is very hard, but the DMT scratched it up.
