Thats very close for sure, in comparing with you others stone what would you say the grit of this stone is?
That coffin is awsome!!
I'm still a newbie at honing so I'm probably not doing this hone justice. It's as good as my Chosera 10k - but it gets to the same edge more easily imo.
There is a belgian stone I have seen which is similar and I have it in my collection. The color is a bit more reddish than blue and is difficult to make out unless I hold it side by side with a blue and then its distinct. They call it a Salmon Rouge. My specimen has some tiny surface holes in it that don't affect honing. Don't remember any green specks. Your stone may be a salmon rouge but, as others note, its hard to tell from the pix.
In talking with AJ an ebay seller from the UK who sells LLyn Melynllyn stones im pretty sure that what my stone is,
he was saying some of them can go up to 15k so it would make sense that its finer then the PHIG i have.
AJ sells purple slates as Llyn Melynllyn stones, who's to say they are what he says they are? He might have a commercial motive for calling them Llyn Melynllyn. He also sold unfamiliar blue slates with white inclusions as Thuringians.
It is still possible they are the same though because we don't know the origin from yours or from AJ's.
There is so much variable that i dont know anymore, i do know for a fact that my stone, whatever is it named, works for me,
i get a better finish then the PHIG, almost mirror finish, and a smooth buttery shave. That said if its not marked or labeled who knows what you have?? i have maybe a dozen natural stone mostly for my woodworking a lot of them arkansas and they all look different.
It sure sounds like a keeper.
