+3 on the Naniwa 12k, that is what I use and love it. around 10 passes on that then 75 passes on cloth 100 passes on leather and you are good to go.
and for lapping i got some 330 sandpaper from the local hardware store.

i have the same problem, the razor is starting to drag ever so slightly, dont have the money to get a naniwa, would a chinese 12k waterstone be enough to touch up the razor?
Or should i try to strop it back first? i do 100 strops before i shave, use it every 2 days, advice?
Now this brings up an other question from this novice I have board strop with leather on one side and on the other side it is not really cloth, more like a loose soft fabric, feels like almost suede. So after I hone the razor I should run some passes on the fabric ( I think it is ) before stropping on the leather?
That's what I always do after honing.
50-60 laps on fabric, then 50-60 laps on leather.
Before each use, when not honing the razor, I do about 40/60 of linen/leather.
And to top it off, I always do 20 on linen and 30-40 after each shave.
Stropping is king, as the saying goes:)
