I respectfully request the advise from members of this forum regarding acquiring a 600 grid Diamond (DMT) stone for the purpose of blade restoration. I already have a wet stone 1000 grid, but I was wondering if the 600 grid could be a useful tool with chips on the blade, ect. Or should I look into a different stone or tool?.

I have one and it can be handy when you need to remove a lot of metal. It is not necessary, just nice.
I usually tape the spine when using my DMT. It likes to eat all metal, including the spine.
I have a set of DMT's. The XX, C, F and E. 120, 325, 600 and 1200 respectively. These days, I only use the XX and the C for hone lapping.
I imagine they would be great for chip removal, but are a bit harsh for my tastes. I prefer the Norton's or Naniwa's in the lower grits.
Oh yes, if you use the DMT plates, Use tape.....!
I'd say get a DMT 325 instead, takes care of chips fairly easily and also rocks for lapping your 1000 grit stone.

The DMT 600 is rather aggressive, but when I started honing it was all I had for bevel setting and it got the job done. Make sure to use tape. I was able to directly go to a coticule with slurry following it with no issues. If you already have a 1K stone though, I would do as suggested above and get the DMT325 as it is duo purpose lapping and chip removal hone.
