Im new to shaving with a straight razor and got my first one a few days ago. I was wondering if this would be a good stone to buy to hone with because the razor has a terrible edge on it. if not could you recommend some but im looking for something under 50$ or close to it.

Short answer... No, but one stone is not really a solution to your problem.
A 4k stone is usually about in the middle of a honing progression which means you need other stones if your razor has a terrible edge. An 8k stone is commonly used after a 4k.
Cheaper alternative is get someone here to hone it for you : Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
Phil at ClassicEdge.ca is not far from you (Just in Ontario) he can give your razor a good honing for a reasonable price. Most of the Canadian retailers for a decent maintenance hone are in the $70+ mark.Quote:
