My hardware store is fresh out of stone-wrapping rice paper, but they did offer "Spongebob" tissue paper. Think that lacks the proper gravitas for a j-nat? :)

I think that in general (with a few exceptions), the way we treat our Jnats means that there is not a great need to lacquer them to be honest. Mine sit inside, in a box, usually hand dried after use, in a lovely climate controlled room that never fluctuates in temperature more than 15 degrees over the course of a year. Mind you I still lacquered a few of them, but I probably didn't need to.
James.
I have two Japanese naturals sealed with urushi and another sealed with thinned out clear nail polish, both mediums work very well. The urushi make the bottom and sides look awesome though. I started to seal them after a Shoudabani Asagi I had literally came apart while drying.
I do believe that it has been proved that Lacquering the sides of a J-nat gives a better edge to your razor... Then again I could be full of Shellac :p
