I have a question about flattening stones. I have a Norton 4/8K and a King 1200. I think I was embedding grit in a Norton, so want to try something else. Would a 3" x 8" DiaSharp® Stone, 220x leave a fine enough finish? I know people like to use the 325, but I need to have that one shipped and will be a lot more.
I also thought of using lapping grit to flatten it and then use: DMT Dia-Sharp Credit Card Sharpener.
I would like to hear thoughts on this

No. It won't. That's the Extra course, it'll leave the stone pretty scratched up. I know my XX does. The 325 does smooth it out more, but not enough, at least for my liking. What you can do is get some wet sandpaper. I wrap the sandpaper tightly around the DMT plate. It works great... You can probaby get away with 400g, but I go up to 1000g, especially on Naturals....
Properly broken in I liked the finish from my 325 DMTC, the perforated one was a bit better for me, just like the 400grit Atoma, maybe because of less sticking. The 220 is too coarse imo, it leaves scratches, and the stone feels rough to the touch, and while honing too.
I recently read a post that talks about the DMT's for lapping and it talked about the flatness of the Dmt's. So I checked my 325 DMT and found it was not perfectly flat, it is low in the center. I tried silicon carbide lapping grit on 1/4" floated plate glass and using wet or dry on the plate glass, when it is wet it will stick to the glass. I had much better luck
