I am wanting to find some very wide 4 inch by 1.5 thick. or so hones. Something cheap but good finisher such as Chinese 12k
google has turned up nothing.
My whole reason is to cut and make 4 inch x 1.5 inch individual hones, I am still not 100% sure if they will be sturdy enough this thin, It would equal out to be a hone in the range of 4 x 1.5 x .25.
The standard 8X3 stone should be able to produce four 4 X 1.5 pieces.
My c12 came 8x3x1.5. I had considered cutting it into 4pcs 8x1.5x.75 and giving away the other pieces but then I discovered slurry and ended up cutting 1/2" off the end to use as a slurry stone.
IMO a piece 8x1.5x.75 would be more desirable then 4x1.5x1.5...

If you want a really big one, go to a home improvement store that specializes in floor tiles and ask for Chinese bluestone. I'm pretty sure it's the same thing and a really big one like 60x60cm or 24x24inches will only cost about 10 bucks. I can buy them here between 7 and 12 euros depending on the store.
Best thing is they are already lapped smooth.
Although I'm pretty sure its the same thing I would really like if somebody could confirm this. Besides tiles they make all kind of stuff from it.

According to the Internet , Chinese Bluestone is a limestone from the Jiangsing province, of course we know the Chinese 12k is from Guangxi province.
It might be fun to play with, but I question if it has a garnet base. Have you tried to hone a razor on Chinese bluestone?
Coticules and BBW are the only commonly used honing stones with garnets in it. A C12K does not have garnets.
I never honed on a Chinese bluestone floortile but I only looked at them in the store and it looks and feels the same as the honing stone, that's why I believe they are the same. I didn't pick one up because I have no use for a huge stone like that but now I think I will have to pick one up for testing.
Does anybody really know what those C12K hones are made of and where they come from? I could not find anything other than that they are a nice honing stone for very little money.
The c12's are from Guangxi province in China, think of it as a state. I was in China a few months back but in a different province. I was looking though for hones though,.. :)
