OK! to report, like Mackie related, regardless of how the razors felt finishing on the gnomestone with only water on the surface, the 2 razors I tested this morning were....neh. Picked up my Bengall, freshly touched up on Naniwa 12000, and thought "that's more like it!"
Seems, although it's been a while, I got a better final edge off of the Norton 8000 in the past. I suppose this thing is somewhere around 4k to 6k and tons lower if slurried. Probably really good for knives or possibly down low in a natural progression. OR a fine Gnomestone for a Gnomes perch! Still, it was fun and interesting to fool with it. I learned a lot and well.....we had a bit of levity!
And to all my gnomish little friends, I leave you with a final gnome! Tom
I find that rather ignome-miniuos of you Tom. For shame!

I got a million of them
Gnones that is.
Ha!!!
I want to dredge this thread up to share what I have learned about the "gnomestone"!
After doing this 4 times and determining it was no fluke, I took a razor directly off of the DMT and onto this rock.
It had hairs popping bigtime in about 1/3 the time my Norton 1000 would have taken. I have gone from it to the 4/8 and on to a 12k Naniwa with perfect results. My latest go was an all natural effort. I went from the DMT to the Gnomestone with a little pressure and water only for 100 and it was popping hairs. I then went very lightly on it for another 100 with lots of clear water. Directly to an Escher with slurry for 100, thinning every 25, the last 25 clear water.
Stropped and shaved this morning. Awesome edge! Smooth and comfortable. Was in a rush to get out and forgot the AS!
No irritation whatsoever. While certainly not a finisher, the Gnomestone has some apparant mystical powers!
Well how about that? It should be gnominated for an Oscar... :gaah:
Sorry - couldn't resist. Must try harder...
Regards,
neil
Dont get me started again you two.
It's nice to see an addition to our honing gnomenclature.
Tarkus - I know it is hard, but you will just have to let Tom go - if you truly love him, you will let him find his own way,
Tom and I have something special, you know that in your heart, and what God has joined together, let gnoman cast asunder...
sympathetically yours,
Neil
