$1 for two rocks. Anyone able to identify??

Picked these up at a local garage sale in Nova Scotia. These cost $0.50 each so even if they are junk i'm ok with it!

The 'greyish' stone had a deep dish in it and ate 2 belts of 80 grit sandpaper on the belt sander to make it flat again. The yellow/brown stone ate another belt to become flat...

The yellow looks to be some kind of natural stone. Compared to my buddies Naniwa stones it FEELS to be between 3k and 5k.

The greyish stone seems to FEEL between 10k and 12k.

I would say without a doubt the light colored one is a Soft Arkansas stone. The iron oxide is why they turn get red spots. Fresh from the saw blade they are white. After a little usage they look just like what you have......

If needed I can show you some for comparison.

The grey one looks like it could be a hindostan. A good pick of the side of the stone would help as hindostans have noticable sedimentary banding.

the grey stone is pretty uniform throughout, sanding on the side revealed the same surface as the top of the stone so I doubt it's natural.

If it is silicon carbide would it be close to something like a carborundum? I can't find anything online as far as grits for SC.

If it is SC what is the probable grit of the stone? I can't see any online that shows over 240grit??

They 'grey' rock is a finer grit than the yellow one so I think SC is out of the question.
