Anyone else suffering from hairless arm syndrome?

I'm just getting into honing. I've gotten a 250/1000 Sun King bevel setter and a Norton 4/8K combo stone. So far I've successfully honed around six razors - everything from Swedes to Germans to Brits. In my learning curve I started doing what they show on the films clips... using my forearm as the testing ground for the blade.

Today I am officially hairless on my lower arms - but I can say that I now know how to hone a blade to shave ready. I tested two of them out this afternoon and got a great shave. One was a Bengal - the other a Heljestrand.

Now if I decide to take a step up to 10 or 12K - and recommendations? I've heard that the Naniwa stones are pretty good and reasonably priced...

As to which direction you go now it is your choice :) once you can successfully hone through the 8k range you can honestly chose any finisher you want...

The Naniwa SS 12k is a solid choice and one of the top finishers out there, simple and straight forward to use, and has excellent feedback.. It leaves an beautiful polish, and it is IMO the goto finisher for chippy difficult blades...

LOL - you will not need to cut as much as you become more practiced - I only have a bare left hand now :).

The Naniwa 12K would be a great next stone!

I have noticed that, overtime, my body is not as hairless. At one point I was testing on arm hair and leg hair. Now, it is mainly the forearms that are missing hair.

I have no eye brows.....

Ive been honing all weekend, so my left are is hairless.

Same here, I've been honing today and have a BBS left forearm. :)

The reason is that (after about ten months) I can now usually set a bevel and get a nice sharp edge, so I bought a Naniwa 12k for extra finishing (I was finishing with a Welsh slate until now). It arrived this week, and I'm very happy with it. Very shiny bevels!

Now I'm off to the bathroom to see if I can get my face as smooth as my arm.

What I do to reduce this is to select 3 hairs to test my blade on (toe, middle, heel). This reduces the baldness and gives quick indication of progress.

No need to take a patch, you can tell a lot about how a single hair is cut.

Mine get short, but never get shaved off completely because I only use arm hair for wafting.
