    Default Norton 4/8k lapping..

    I just got my 4/8 from the perfect edge. Howard lapped her for me and I learned the ground work how to hone today at the meetup.. How often do I lap the stone and how do I know when it's time..

    lap it when ever it gets dirty

    or run a dmt etc over every so often.

    you will get metal deposits on it long before it starts to unflatten so might as well use lapping gear to clean it

    or even a machinists dmt file would work

    just make sure to get one that is perfectly flat.

    better to buy the hone type because it will be more ridged therfore better

    I give it 3 or 4 light laps every time i hone. As whwn it gets real dirty i will draw a grid and lap till it disapeares. A dmt is another lapping stone. A Norton lapping stone will eventually need lapping itself. From what i understand a dmt wont

    lapping the norton before each use with only 3 or 4 light figure 8s will do just fine. I am pretty sure that is what most of the members on here would agree with. watch that video of gsixgun honing. its a massive help!!
