One might ask how the first whetstones were found. Nowbody went into the mountains thinking, I need a sharpening stone for my knife, let’s see if I find one.
The first thing that draws interest on these special stones surely was the color that was somehow different to the stones you normally see. If you are in the thuringian slate mountains you see slate all around. Typical, dark blue/black slate like everybody knows from the slate you build houses or roofs of. Stones of different color among this huge amount of slate attract attention and draw interest on these stones by the people who found them.

In the middle ages the thuringian whetstones were most probably discovered by gold seekers. There have been some small discoveries of gold in the thuringian mountains just close to the whetstone quarries. So these seekers looked with great attention on the stones in the small creeks around and may have found these special thuringian stones. Their tools, hatchets and so on had to be sharp, so it was maybe a small step to discover the special abilities of these stones.

Received a nice one today but iam not shure if this could be a Thuringian Beauty, its a very fine Stone with a milky white slurry....seem to have very smal glittering particles (not comparable to the Special Stone)

Got another nice one today, another cloudy thuringian (the term fits very as created here by Hatzicho).
The Stone is 21 x 6,5 x 2cm huge...i think its a light green but looking at the stone is less green and more greyish...
One side is cloudy with dark black smal inclusions the other side has a faint and hard to catch cloudy look...

Proximus, i always thought these are, but they arent....
These are named Blais Natural Hones, i still have the original label left somewhere....
They have a far appearance to some of the french Special Stones because they also have a certain glittering....iam shure its a slate type stone from whereever these are coming...
