Very interesting video about diamond edged razor blades. Wonder when I will be able to get this treatment for my straight! The video shows a razor blade slicing ribbons off a single hair.

How many people will pay $150 for a single razor blade? Also, just because it's wicked sharp doesn't mean it will give a great shave.
The annals of shave history are littered with all kinds of contraptions that went nowhere.
Believe it or not people still use manual typewriters because they want to. Same with vinyl phonograph records and turntables. New technology doesn't always mean the disappearance of older technology. There are even people who still shave with the old barber's straight razors ...... :gaah:
If work so with hairs think what can do with the skin, I don't like peeling my face like a onion, decidedly not for me.
Damn that's impressive. But I'm sure a laser could do the same thing, but I wouldn't want to shave with a laser. I'd be afraid it would cut the hair at too much of an angle, which once you release the stretch would cause an ingrown.
looks pricey lol
I keep honing if my straights only split hair. :p
It'll be interesting to see if anyone picks up on it commercially and in what kind of product.
Not going to insult it, though the thread title seems to invite it.
Oh!! I just did that to my left index finger this week and the straight wasn't even half way honed!!
Anyone one can cut hair!
This video was linked last week or so, and at that time I was under the impression that it's cutting wire. Anyhow...Yep..I'll stick with straights. If I ever want to quit honing, all I have to do is pay someone else to do it, or stop buying dull razors. :)
Introducing the new Vertical Parallel Hanging Hair Test [VPHHT ©Cangooner Enterprises 2013]
Depicted in the video above is a blade rated VPHHT 7 (it achieved seven slices before the end went all squiggly). This is en essential test for all vertical shavers who, rather than crudely incidering hairs in dimidium [whacking them in half], slices each hair longitudinally until it is so thin it virtually disappears. Assuming an average beard of 10,000 hairs, this particular blade should yield excellent results with a 70,000-pass shave which, given a three-second pass average, would be complete in approximately 58 hours. Just in time to start all over again.
This is the ideal technique for any misanthropic shaver seeking a tonsorial means of avoiding any and all human contact.

As a lover of sharp, I cannot help but enjoy this.
That said, sharper is not always better.
The concept of shave ready really determines the best result in my opinion...I'm not sure sharper = shave readier. However dull = NOT shave ready.
I believe this sort of topic is similar to the polished vs toothy edge debates in circles of knife enthusiasts.
I want one; sign me up now. Super video. Thanks for the look at it.
I am a bit confused,,
What is so "Amazing" :hmmm:
Just Google "hair whittling edge" knife guys have been doing this for years or am I missing something here ?????

Yes we have, I filleted a hair 9 times once, but the way this blade was cutting straight sections out with out curling them up seemed interesting.
That guy you posted is an old friend of mine.

The sharper the blade the more fragile the edge becomes, therefore it would not last as long, for reference look up multiblade cartridge.
The sharper the blade the harder to get comfortable shave as the blade tends to bite into the skin. SRs are sharp but not the sharpest out there.
i bet that would also shave the skin right off your face. Sharp is 1 thing... but diamond laser sharp is just scary looking. LOL dudes shaving the hair off a hair!
