I would say 1/2 hour on the stone should get a lapping. 1/2 hour is a lot of use. And yes lap it before you use it the first time!

Another benefit to the Naniwa is that so many of us have used it, and because it's a synthetic, we've had similar experiences with it. That means that we can give you better answers to any questions you have about using it.
And, as has already been said, yes you should lap it before using it, and every once in a while (can't define "while" for you) after that. Use a 325-grit DMT. You can damage your finer DMTs lapping really fine hones.
I love my own N12k; it gives me a reliable and very nice edge, and provides a standard to which I compare the results from my other finishers.
Now he's got to buy a DMT as well !! :rofl2:
Already have the DMT use that for lapping lol
Nani 12000 all the way
+1 to nani 12k mess around with naturals when you've mastered the synthetics is what I rkn. I have a c12k myself but I haven't used it yet I have just been honing up to the Nani 8k only so that when I do move on to finishers I will be able to better appreciate what effect they are having on the razor. That being said I do have a thuringian on it's way now so I guess I'm going to start playing around with the naturals now lol
