Hey fellas I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure what this stone is or any info on grit or what stage I'd use it at in honing. It's grey on one side a reddish colour on the other .
Thanks in advance

Looks to me to be some kind of double grit Barber's hone, they are used to touch-up a razor and not really part of a progression.
Any more information obtained from cleaning lapping such as hard/soft, colour of slurry, smell, etc?
That stone is dirty. Can you clean it up and let us have another look at it? Thanks.
I'd say Barber's hone too. Perhaps a good cleaning, and some lapping. Actually, it looks a lot like my Dubl Duck Barber's hone, only larger. Mine has almost the same uneven pattern where the red and gray meet on the side. Here's some pics.
Thanks guys' when I first started lapping it with some wet/dry sand it was creating a whitish/creme/grey slurry I guess. I'll try some more tonite and take some photos and see what's up.
I did some lapping on the stone and it feels super hard. It's taking forever to lap the small dip in the middle of the red side out. Heres a couple pictures of both sides while lapping , the "slurry" feels thick and pasty, hope this helps anyone give me anymore insight on it .
Damm, Now it's starting to look like a Coticule? At least the top pic does. That's the same hone? Does it smell "Earthy"
Yep same hone. I was using a 400grit wet/dry and that's what it was doing. Couldn't put my finger on what it smelled like, but it wasn't strong by any means so I'm not sure.
I am more than before inclined to say man made barber hone.
Oddest looking coticule I've ever seen! Mind you, I have seen a few weird ones, and own some...
Without more pics and closer close-ups I'm inclined to agree with Adrspach. Lapping the side well and taking a pic of the joint between the two sides would help.
Regards,
Neil
Ill try lapping the sides and getting a goods picture of the edge where the to colours meet tonite. Thanks again guys!
Thread's getting a little stale. I don't know what ever became of it. But FWIW it looks like a classic barber's hone to me. Size, shape, seam, etc. They are incredibly hard to lap flat, and all of mine have had a hump on one side and cupped on the other...never by much, but they took forever to get flat. Most had the name embossed like the Dubl Duck already pictured, but some just had stickers on the side; which could easily come off with age.
Would be interested in seeing more pics if you ever got around to it.
Peace,
Jim
