Best way to get glued thuringian 5x1 out of the box?

Hi Guys,

I've been debating about this with myself for a while I don't know what I should do I need to get the stone out of the wooden box, or It's really hard to use and if I can get it out then I might not need to lap it as much because I could just use the reverse side. Can someone give me some tips on which way is the best and safest way to get the hone out of the box?

I've heard of putting it in the oven and using the steam method. if theres any other methods I'm all ears.
I'd rather not break the box but if it has to be done I guess I will

I have no idea what type of glue you're dealing with but it's probably not 100% waterproof, so if you just let it soak underwater it should destroy the bond eventually.

cool, I got it sitting in a glass on hot water atm. hope it does the trick, I really don't wanna try putting my hone in the oven =[ I think I'd rather just break the box

Did it work? I have a small thurry in a box as well.

Randy told me to do 45 minutes in the oven at 400 IIRC and it worked just fine. That old metamorphic rock has probably been exposed to a whole lot worse at some time in history.

I soaked in hot water from the kettle for a little while maybe an hour? then the box came apart but the stone was still stuck to the bottom piece of wood, then I ran that under hot water and worked at it with a spatula slowly and carefully until it was free, then i scraped the glue off

I recently removed a similar stone from it's box, and all I did was put the stone and box in the oven on 250 for just long enough to get the stone a little warm. Once it was warm to the touch, I took it out and with a little help from a butter knife, it easily popped out of the box.

I had a 5x1 thuri arrive from ebay earlier this week.
I really dont like them glued in the box, and it was in bad condition with the lid missing anyway.
So I soaked it in water overnight. The wood swelled and softened, and was fairly easy to carefully break away from the stone.
I was about to throw away the broken pieces, but then I thought just for a challenge, I'll take it to work today and try to glue it back together.
It turned out alright (last picture)
Of course I wouldn't recommend this method If you care for the box.
