Got my Chosera 1000
Just received my Chosera 1000 to set my bevels.
Always wanted to get one as i always read great stuff about this stone but price was an issue so i settled for the Naniwa ss 1000
which worked great for me.
Then i read a post where Lynn says that bang for the buck as this is a thicker stone and will last longer , i took the plunge as i found it for under 100$ shipped to Canada.
And man was i glad i listened to Lynn as this thing is huge compared to my Super stone.
Can't wait to try it out.
Just 2 question,i wanted to know after i lap it with my Dmt 325, the logo on the stone should all come off?
And when should one use the slurry stone that it comes with or do you just not use it?
Thank you for any advice.*****HAVE A GREAT SHAVE*****

Thanked: 4941The Logo should come off after a couple light lappings. Don't worry about using the stone with a little of the logo left. Won't hurt anything. I don't use the slurry stone that comes with it. It works fine just on it's own.
Have fun

+1 to Lynn, the logo just seems to be a dye applied, so no biggie. You can use it or not. I start with the slurry from the dmt, then if I have a blade that's just being a real bugger on the bevel, I will use the slurry stone to help speed up the process a bit, but not a necessity at all.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thank you for the reply i really appreciate it and Lynn thank you for sharing your knowledge with us as i have learned a lot from your videos and threads.
There would be no chance in (HE double hockey sticks) that i would be able to hone straights without Lynn's videos.*****HAVE A GREAT SHAVE*****

I absolutely love my Chosera 1k and I'm sure you will too. they are simply THE stone for bevel setting. I can't imagine forcing myself back on a norton 1k. I won't do it!

Through all my testing out stones in the beginning, my Chosera 1K is the one I've had the longest. Great stone.

I just used the Chosera for the first time for 2 of my straights.
This thing is amazing.
Harder stone which i like and it just feels perfect when moving the straight on it.
Eats away metal fast and with not as much effort as my Nani ss.
I don't know if it was just me but it looks like it is also more thirsty and drinks a lot of water.
Looks like a must of an investment if one is serious about setting bevels.*****HAVE A GREAT SHAVE*****

Thanked: 0Chosera 1k is a fantastic stone, sharpens carbon knives very fast on a dodgy bevel, but as a tip use the nagura for only refreshing the surface of the stone after flattening and sharpening to make it supper smooth after lapping and remove glazing of the stone next time you use it.
Generally you would never need slurry on this stone and the nagura as I heard is rather lower grit rating then the stone so not good idea to make slurry.
My stone is also thirsty, don't soak it long though as it not really necessary.
Have fun.Last edited by msimon; 06-12-2013 at 06:13 PM.
