Thanked: 14Here's the latest, after 3k...
After 8k...
Now it's getting quite reflective, the scope was having trouble, and that's about the best I could get.
Viewing during the 8k honing was informative. Firstly, it look longer to remove the 3k scratches than I expected - when it felt right on the stone to me, it actually still needed a bit more work. It did make me wonder if the 3k to 8k jump is a bit much and if a 5k intermediate might help, but I've spent plenty on hones for now - but at least I can improve my 8k-stage honing now that I know that.
The other thing is that I noticed a few larger scratches being put in, so I guess I hadn't rinsed everything properly after 3k and a few rogue grit particles were getting in - that's something else for me to improve.
Then, after 12k...
Same again with the reflection making it hard for the scope, but there's something of concern there - it looks like micro-chipping at the edge. I do use very light pressure, but maybe it's just not quite light enough.
I might take this back to 3k and try the sequence again, and try to improve on the issues I'm seeing.

Thanked: 9Glenn,
As far as honing / setting bevel, using a King 1k, would not it be simple to use firm pressure x strokes until a wire edge
formes on one side, flip razor until wire edge is removed and then proceed to the Norton 4/8?
