Honing education in St. Paul
Semi-New to this forum, long time DE shaver and a year in on straits. I met a couple members here yesterday and received a great education in honing.
So, I met up with randydance or Randy T, today in St Paul. Or rather, he came and picked me up so that I would not get lost in this foreign city. He invited me into his house and showed me great hospitality and shared his knowledge of honing amongst many other subjects that came up in the 7 hours we spent together. Moreover, Randy, knowing that I am a musician, also invited another honemeister, studioguy, that coincidently is also in the music industry, to join the honing/teaching/meeting. Similarly, studioguy, showed me much hospitality and friendliness.
I cannot express how helpful both of these gentleman were in providing me with tips on honing, working out chips, and progressions. A video cannot give one a critical eye and instant feedback on technique as well as critiquing progress when to move on in the progression. Randy provided stones and the three of us honed simultaneously on three razors that I had brought with me. As we honed we carried on conversation and when we were prepared to move along we would inspect each others edges so that I could feel the difference in my work to these seasoned honers.
Needless to say, I was the slower one but no negativity was given, only support and constructive comments. I feel very fortunate to have been shown the kindness, hospitality, and education that I received today. Moreover a hearted thank you to these fine gentleman. I am sure the SWSBO will cringe when I tell her that I need some hones.
To anyone else in the St Paul region that is willing to learn how to hone, contact randydance to discuss the possibility of meeting for honing guidance.
Thanks again Randy and Rod!
